Are you still with me? I hope so. Falling behind seems to be an ongoing theme of this trip. Could it be because I’m living in the moment? (Hint: yes) Still, I do want to share, so perhaps I will just give you some of the highlights of our/my time in Denmark (but there are so many!).
I Promised you a Party
Hans and Birgitte brought us all together for a really special gathering a few days into our time with them. Over the years, we’ve been privileged to meet and fall in love with a number of “Great Danes,” some of whom my family hadn’t met yet. This beautiful party touched me deeply, partly because I could share these dear people with my dear people.
I think you’ll see in these photos what I mean about “elegance” over here. Admittedly, both Birgitte and I teased Hans because for days he was saying how it was just going to be an “informal gathering,” as he picked up place cards and champagne and wrote out a lovely little menu for each place setting, describing the lovely (catered) meal. I said, “Maybe this is Danish ‘informal’?” I told him American “informal” might not involve shirts or shoes and would probably feature eating with one’s hands. Truth be told, Hans just wanted to make it special, which it most definitely was as you can see here in the first photo of the table (all set in Royal Copenhagen).

I’ll just pop in a few more photos of the party and then publish this….even though it’s not nearly finished. More to come soon. (I hope!)
Who?: Hans in the foreground speaking with Helle (one of our dear au pairs). Next comes Hans Olsen (best friend of Hans and a total kick), then my daughter-in-law, Lauren, then Hans’ wife Birgitte, and Adam (whom you can’t see), and finally, Jesper’s wife Mai.

Photo is of me bracketed by Jesper and Lisbeth, two wonderful wonderful Danes, both sent by the loving Universe to become part of our family.
